A joint investigation team (JIT) is an international cooperation tool based on an agreement between competent authorities - both judicial, such as prosecutors and investigative judges, and law enforcement - of two or more States, established for a limited duration and a specific purpose, to accomplish criminal investigations in one or more of the involved States. Eurojust plays a central role in the setting up and running of joint investigation teams (JITs), including expertise, financial support, follow-up to JIT activities and building up know-how.
